The Best Natural Skincare Ingredients for Rosacea-Prone Skin
First, Understand What Your Skin Actually Needs
Rosacea isn't just redness. It's a sign that your skin barrier is compromised—it's losing moisture too easily, reacting to things it shouldn't, and struggling to protect itself from everyday triggers like wind, temperature changes, and stress.
When your skin barrier is weakened, it becomes much easier for irritants to penetrate the skin while valuable moisture escapes. That's why rosacea-prone skin often feels dry, tight, sensitive and unpredictable.
So the goal of any skincare routine for rosacea should always be the same: calm inflammation, support the skin barrier and protect it over time. Everything else is secondary.
Once you understand that, choosing ingredients becomes much simpler.
The Ingredients That Actually Help
1. Oat-Based Ingredients
Oats might sound humble, but from a chemistry perspective they're genuinely fascinating. They contain compounds called avenanthramides—powerful antioxidants with anti-inflammatory properties that help calm irritation and support a weakened skin barrier.
For rosacea-prone skin, strengthening the skin barrier is everything. When the barrier is healthier, skin becomes less reactive to the everyday triggers that cause flare-ups.
We use Finnish oat oil in our Scandi Glow Face Oil. I chose it specifically because Nordic-grown oats are cold-pressed to help preserve their naturally occurring beneficial compounds.
2. Chamomile & Bisabolol
Chamomile has been used to soothe irritated skin for centuries, and the science behind it is impressive. One of its key active compounds, bisabolol, is well known for its calming and anti-inflammatory properties.
It helps reduce redness, calm irritation and support the skin's natural recovery process without placing further stress on already sensitive skin.
3. Raspberry Seed Oil
One of the most important things you can do for rosacea-prone skin is nourish and protect the skin's lipid barrier, and this is where high-quality plant oils become incredibly valuable.
Raspberry seed oil (Rubus idaeus) is one of my favourite ingredients as a formulator. It's naturally rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, vitamin E and polyphenols. Together these help reduce moisture loss, strengthen the skin barrier and provide antioxidant protection.
You'll find raspberry seed oil in our Forest Blossom Moisturiser. It's one of the ingredients I'm most proud of including because it delivers deep nourishment without feeling heavy or congesting the skin.
4. Resveratrol
Resveratrol is one ingredient I find particularly exciting from a chemistry perspective. Naturally found in grapes and berries, it has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Rosacea is closely linked with oxidative stress and chronic inflammation, so resveratrol helps address two important pathways. Emerging research also suggests it may help inhibit angiogenesis—the formation of new blood vessels that contributes to persistent redness and flushing.
We use 1% resveratrol in our Forest Blossom Moisturiser, where it helps support calmer, healthier-looking skin over time.
